The 1st Lisbon Conference was held on 3-4 December 2014. The debate went around the relevance of the North-South cleavage, the impact of the financial and sovereign debts’ crises in development or the effects of the growing power of China and other emerging economies in the current international architecture, the apparent contradiction between decreasing in absolute poverty levels and increasing wealth inequalities, as well as on the strategic challenges that arise from security threats.

The Lisbon Conferences were established with the signing of a cooperation agreement in 2013 by seven organisations: CCIP – Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry; CML – Lisbon Municipality; FPA – Portugal-Africa Foundation; IMVF – Marquês de Valle Flôr Institute; ISCTE-IUL – Lisbon University Institute; SOFID – Society for Development Financing; UCCLA – Union of Portuguese-speaking Capital Cities. With the creation of the Club OF lISBON, these organisations decided to entrust it with the organisation of the Conferences.
