2nd LISBON CONFERENCE
GLOBALISATION OF DEVELOPMENT
The second edition of the Lisbon Conferences focused on the Globalisation of Development.
The 2nd Lisbon Conference took place over two days of debates and reflections on the Globalisation of Development. After the 2nd World War the concept of Development belonged to the lexicon of economic, social, political and institutional modernisation of the so-called third world countries. Following the end of the Cold War and of the international architecture based on the East-West conflict, North-South cleavages became more visible, fuelled by the performance of China and other emerging economies. However, as globalisation accelerated and sustainability becomes endangered by environment predatory growth models, Development transcended North-South barriers and now encompasses all geographies and populations.
The conference programme and the debates held reflect the inevitability of interdependence and interlinkages between challenges, from geopolitical realities, globalisation, crises, effects on human relations with society, the organisation of political systems and governance, to economic issues.
